Groupon to Test Self-Service Social Feature

Fast-growing deal-of-the-day website Groupon is about to launch Groupon Stores, a new self-service platform for businesses looking to advertise specials. With this new social media feature, businesses will be able to set up Facebook page-like profiles that customers can follow to keep informed about deals. Here's an example of a Groupon Stores profile:

Groupon is fairly excited about Groupon Stores, even going as far to tout it as “the future of Groupon.” This is what Groupon has to say about the new feature: “Groupon Stores is a place where your favorite, local businesses can sign up, create a store page, and post deals at anytime for you to see. Welcome to the future of Groupon.”

This new feature helps businesses take advantage of the popular Groupon without waiting for months to be featured on the site. Also, as Groupon has to turn away about seven businesses out of eight, the Groupon Stores gives more businesses the chance to let customers know about deals. However, unlike the deal-of-the-day specials, Groupon’s marketing staff will not have a hand in custom-creating coupons for Groupon Stores.

Currently, Groupon Stores has only been rolled out to a few merchants. We'll keep you posted on ways to sign up for this new feature.
