CyberMark International CEO Kimberly Judd-Pennie recently had the honor of helping to select the winners of this year's Business Ethics Awards handed out by the Better Business Bureau of Greater Arizona. Judd-Pennie was one of a panel of 14 judges that chose the five winners. Judd-Pennie was asked to serve on the judges' panel because CyberMark was one of last year's winners of the coveted awards.
The BBB of Greater Arizona has been giving out the awards, which are also known as the Torch Awards, since 2002. Each year, 15 finalists are chosen from among a field of nominated businesses, three each in five size classes that are based on the number of employees in the firms. One winner is ultimately chosen in each class.
Winning the BBB Ethics award last year was a great honor for CyberMark,†said Judd-Pennie. “Likewise, it was an honor to be chosen to play a part in selecting this year's winners. Serving as a judge was both a gratifying and humbling experience.â€
CyberMark had been chosen as a finalist for the award for three consecutive years prior to winning in 2011.
The 2012 Torch Award winners chosen by Judd-Pennie and her fellow judges were Convertabath, a Chandler bath-to-shower conversion firm; Integrity Tree Service, a Scottsdale tree-care company; Arizona Fire and Water Restoration, a Phoenix contractor specializing in post-disaster home and building repair; Schumacher European, a Mercedes-Benz dealership in Scottsdale; and Blackstone Security, a security services company in Phoenix.
The judges of the BBB Ethics Awards make their selections based on six criteria:
• leadership commitment to ethical practices
• communications of ethical practices
• organizational commitment to ethical practices
• organizational commitment to performance management practices
• organizational commitment to ethical human resource practices
• organizational commitment to the community
The five Arizona winners will be nominated for the international BBB Ethics Awards to be given out in October 2013. The field of companies considered for the international awards will include businesses from all over the United States, Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean.
