Apple Launches iPhone 4
Long lines formed outside of Apple and AT & T stores around the U.S. Thursday with customers hoping to get Apple's latest version of the iPhone. According to Fortune, Apple is expected to sell 1 to 1.5 million iPhones over the weekend, but Mashable is reporting that as many 1.5 million units were sold on launch day alone. Many vying for the new iPhone 4 are already own an iPhone. Seventy-seven percent of iPhone customers in line at Apple stores on Thursday were repeat iPhone users, according to researchers at Piper Jaffray. The iPhone 4 offers many new features over earlier iPhone incarnations, including a front-facing camera, video calling and a lighter, sleeker new look.
Google releases Google Voice to Everyone in U.S.
On Tuesday, Google made Google Voice, a communications management system that can be accessed from your Gmail account, available to the public. Previously only available to invited users, Google Voice offers users several features, including voicemail transcription, one phone number for multiple phones and free calls and text messages to anyone in the U.S. and Canada. Google Voice is also available as a mobile phone app for smartphone users.
Integrating Social Media with E-mail Marketing Can Increase Click-Thru Rates
According to a study conducted by GetResponse, an e-mail marketing firm, including links to share content on social media sites like Facebook and Twitter in e-mail marketing messages results in a 30 percent higher click-thru rate than e-mail messages without social media sharing options. And the more sharing options you provide, the better. E-mail marketers that included 3 or more sharing options saw an average increase of 55 percent in click-thru rates.
WordPress 3.0 is Here
Dedicated blogging platform WordPress recently released WordPress 3.0 earlier this month. With the latest version of WordPress, bloggers can create custom post types (similar to what microblogging platform Tumblr offers), manage site menus with an easy drop-and-drop interface and create new taxonomies to better organize posts. The new updates give bloggers and developers greater customizability, moving WordPress closer to a content management system.
